We provide equitable access to sustainable transportation to all people through our recycling efforts, full-service bike shop, and various programs for adults and youth.


Position Summary


The Bike Shop Director assumes primary responsibility for the daily operations of the bike shop and supervises the staff team. This role is the key leader of the shop and should have excellent customer service skills while demonstrating best practices for running a non-profit bike shop. The Shop Director will work closely with the Executive Director and the Shop and Recycle Reuse Lead as part of the leadership team, and interact with the Board, other staff, and volunteers. They are responsible for maintaining the safety, morale, and inclusive atmosphere of the shop.

Classification: Full Time, plus Benefits


Essential Job Functions

  • Ensure the retail operations run smoothly, profitably, and fulfill the organization's vision and mission.

  • Manage all shop mechanics, assistant shop mechanics, volunteers, and interns.

  • Purchase parts, accessories, shop supplies, and tools for the main shop while keeping costs within the designated budget.

  • Report directly to the Executive Director.

  • Maintain accurate inventory records using inventory management software.

  • Responsible for inventory reconciliation.

  • Provide monthly reports to the Executive Director in quantitative, qualitative, and/or narrative form.


List of Duties(Includes but is not limited to the following)


  • Ensure customers are assisted in a timely, professional, and courteous manner.

  • Purchase products and keep the shop fully stocked with tools and supplies.

  • Ensure the shop is clean, organized, and all tools are accounted for.

  • Set daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals for the team to work toward.

  • Create a schedule to cover the shop's open hours.

  • Maintain accurate inventory.

  • Make accurate weekly cash deposits to the bank that match the POS system.

  • Responsible for onboarding and training new shop mechanics, shop assistants, and full-service mechanics.


Desired & Minimum Qualifications


  • 2-3 years of management or other leadership role in the bike industry setting.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and handle multiple tasks.

  • Experience working in a multicultural/lingual environment.

  • Must meet federal and state health and safety standards.

  • Able to work flexible hours on occasion.

  • Excellent organizational and computer skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

  • Respect for others' experiences, opinions, language, values, culture, and knowledge.

  • Access to a reliable source of transportation.

  • Experience working with immigrant and refugee families.

  • Strong understanding of and commitment to social justice, racial equity, and gender equity.

  • Bike riding and bike mechanic skills.

  • Availability to work on weekends.


Compensation

Salary range $23 - $27 an hour DOE. Generous benefits include: Health Reimbursement Arrangement; generous paid time off plus an organization-wide holiday recess from 12/24 to 1/1; a generous wellness time policy; disability; annual investment in professional development and physical activity; discounts on new and used bikes and parts; casual work environment.
