All children deserve to feel the joy of a bike.
Through all of our youth programs, we aim to increase youths' confidence around active-transportation or hands-on mechanical skills. Our mission is to ensure every child has the opportunity to experience the independence and some other word that comes with riding a bike.

"Let's Go" Bicycle Education
A foundational in-school program run in partnership with Tacoma Public Schools (TPS). We work directly with physical education classes to teach bicycle safety, operations, and traffic awareness to local students.
Who it's for: Elementary and middle school students within Tacoma Public Schools.
How to register: This curriculum is built directly into the school day for participating TPS classrooms.
The impact: Graduates become eligible for specialized bike-gifting initiatives to keep them moving long after the school unit ends.

Just Riding Around
An active transportation and urban riding course run in collaboration with Cascade Bicycle Club and WSDOT.
Who it's for: Middle and high school students (Grades 6–12).
How to register: Facilitated directly through participating Tacoma public schools and local youth organizations.
Funding: Supported with funding from Washington's Climate Commitment Act (CCA). The CCA supports Washington’s climate action efforts by putting cap-and-invest dollars to work reducing climate pollution, creating jobs, and improving public health. (Learn more at www.climate.wa.gov).

Spring & Summer Urban Riding Camps
Our bike camps are for both those who are still learning the fundamental skills of riding and for experienced riders. Depending on grade level, we offer a wide variety of activities from learning to ride, riding drills, and of course exploring Tacoma on bikes. Each day is a unique journey, offering new sights, sounds, and stories.

Earn-a-Bike & Youth Court Diversion
Young people learn step-by-step mechanics by stripping and rebuilding a bicycle. Upon completion, they take home the bike they fully repaired themselves, alongside a helmet, lock, and lights.
Who it's for: At-risk youth or young community members wanting hands-on engineering and mechanical skills.
How to register: Open registration forms are posted to our active Events page prior to seasonal cohorts, or coordinated via juvenile court diversion partnerships.

Open Shop
This program provides a space to work on your bike, learn basic repair skills, and use our tools, all with support from our experienced team. Whether you're tackling a project or just want to tune up your ride, Open Shop is here to help.
Open Shop is held every Friday from 5-7pm at 2nd Cycle.
