Bike Month 2025: Let’s Ride Together!

At 2nd Cycle, we believe that bikes are more than just a mode of transportation — they are a powerful tool for building community, inspiring change, and connecting people to each other and to their city. As the hub of community cycling in Tacoma, we’ve worked hard this year to create a full lineup of Bike Month events with something for everyone. Whether you’re an experienced cyclist, a casual rider, a parent with kids, or a passionate advocate for safer streets, we need you to help make these events a success!

This year, we’re proud to be partnering with some incredible community leaders and organizations to bring these events to life — but they won’t be complete without your participation. Here’s what’s happening and how you can join:

Speak Up for Bikes at City Council – April 29

We’re kicking off Bike Month with a big advocacy moment! Join us and Downtown on the Go at Tacoma City Council at 5 PM to accept the Bike Month Proclamation and to “Speak Up for Biking.” This is your chance to show city leadership that cycling matters in Tacoma — and the more people who show up, the stronger our message will be. If you care about better bike infrastructure, safer streets, and a more bike-friendly Tacoma, we need you there!

Bike Love – May 2

Next, we’re gathering for Bike Love — a unique storytelling and community-building event. Instead of riding, we’ll be sharing personal stories about why biking is meaningful to each of us. It’s a powerful opportunity to connect with others, hear different experiences, and celebrate all the reasons we love to ride.

Social Justice Ride – May 10

We are especially excited to be hosting our first-ever Social Justice Ride, developed with support from community leaders Richard Woo and Lyle Quasim. This guided ride will explore important civil rights sites in Tacoma, offering a deeper understanding of our community’s history. The ride is less than five miles, mostly downhill, and ends near a light rail station for easy return access. If riding uphill is a barrier, don’t worry — you can take the light rail back, or ride back with the group if you’re feeling up to it. This is a ride about honoring the past and imagining a better future — and we need you to be part of it.

Feeling ambitious? Test your limits with the Destiny Dozen Hill Challenge! This fundraiser ride invites you to conquer twelve of Tacoma’s steepest hills — or, if you’re more into scenery than suffering, you can choose the “Views Only” route instead. Either way, you’re supporting 2nd Cycle’s work while pushing yourself (or just having a blast with other riders).

Kidical Mass at Swan Creek – May 25

We’ll close out Bike Month with a family-friendly Kidical Mass ride at Swan Creek Park. Parents, kids, and riders of all levels are invited to explore one of Tacoma’s hidden gems together. It’s the perfect way to introduce young riders to cycling and to enjoy a relaxed ride with the whole family.

We’re so excited for Bike Month — but we need YOU to make it truly amazing!

Each of these events is built around participation and community. Your presence makes a difference: it shows that Tacoma’s bike community is strong, growing, and ready to roll into the future.

Join us for one event, a few, or all of them — bring a friend, a neighbor, or your whole family. Let’s celebrate Bike Month together, lift each other up, and keep making Tacoma a better place to ride.

Would you also like me to help you draft a catchy title or slogan you could use for promoting this on your website and social media, too?
