At 2nd Cycle, we’ve always believed in giving bikes a second life, whether through resale, parts reuse, or recycling. But this October, we’re taking that idea to a whole new level with a brand-new competition we’re calling: 🧟♀️ Bike from the Dead 🧟
This challenge invites you to take an old, donated bike and bring it back to life in your own creative way. Whether you’re a seasoned builder or just want to test your skills, this is your chance to transform a forgotten frame into something truly rideable and maybe even award-worthy.
How It Works
1. Get Your Bike
Members: Shop our Recycle Reuse Center any time for your donor bike.
Non-members: Use any bike you can find (basement treasure, garage sale, etc.).
Need help? Attend our Fix-It-Fest (every other Friday, open to all). Members also get access to our open shop during regular hours to work on their build.

2. Build It Up
You have until October 27th 9am to complete your build and submit it via our Google Form.
Maximum parts budget: $200. (All staff builds were done under this limit and so can yours!)
3. Submit & Share link to the google form
On the form, upload before and after photos of your bike.
Include a short description of your work.
4. Win Big
The bike with the most votes wins a $100 2nd Cycle gift certificate.
Voting will be conducted by 2nd Cycle staff, board members, and volunteers.
The winner will be announced at Bike Stories on November 9th, receive a comped ticket, and be invited to join us at the event.
Winner of our Employee Bike Build
Why Participate?
Not only is this a fun way to challenge yourself it’s also a way to support 2nd Cycle’s mission. Every donated bike that gets “resurrected” in this competition keeps parts out of the landfill, puts affordable bikes back into the community, and helps us spread the joy of cycling even further.
So whether you’re ready to wrench, tinker, or create a monster of a build, join us in giving old bikes new life.
Are you ready to bring a bike back from the dead? 🧟♂️🚲✨
